The Unknown Cross 2
In
part one of “The Unknown Cross” we learned, from Matthew 16:21-22 and from Luke
18:31-34 that Peter, James and John went about for three years preaching the
gospel of the Kingdom and healing the sick, raising the dead, cleansing lepers
and casting out devils, but knew nothing at all about the cross of Christ.
Knowing
that Jesus of Nazareth was the son of David, the heir to the throne of David,
the King of Israel and the message being preached was the gospel of the Kingdom
and that the “kingdom of heaven is at hand,” they believed that Christ had come
AT THAT TIME to set up the promised and long awaited Kingdom. They believed
that he was about to RESTORE the Kingdom to
Now
Christ was crucified. They didn’t know why. He was buried, and three days and
three nights later he rose from the dead. But guess what? They DID NOT believe
it. This is quite a shock to some people who have been taught something totally
different all of their lives in the fundamental, denominational religious
system. But let’s just look at the facts, and let’s just believe our bibles. Reason? Because we want to know WHAT IS and WHERE IN THE
BIBLE IS the gospel of your salvation.
Early
in the morning of the first day of the week, after Christ rose from the dead,
there are several women who get involved, and a flurry of activity takes place.
But all of the activity and all of the women eventually get back to the
apostles. Here they are:
Luke
24:10 It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other
women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
Luke
24:11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales,
and they believed them not.
Idle tales? They believed them NOT? Now that’s an odd attitude for someone who is
trusting in the fact that Christ died for their sins wouldn’t you say?
Mark
16:12 After that he appeared in another form unto two
of them, as they walked, and went into the country.
Mark
16:13 And they went and told it unto the residue:
neither believed they them.
